The integrative action of the nervous system.New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1906.Sherrington insisted that the essential function of the nervous system was the co-ordination of activities of the various parts of the organism. His work on the nervous system, especially his experimental studies of reflex action, had a profound influence upon modern physiology. During his period as Professor of Physiology at Oxford (1913-36) he created what was considered to be the best school of physiology in the world.
