The first important printed surgical treatise in German. It combines a compilation of the ancient and medieval authorities with Brunschwig’s own extensive experience. It contains the first detailed account of gunshot wounds in medical literature, and is notable for its woodcuts— some of the earliest specimens of medical illustration. It was reproduced in facsimile in 1911 (Munich), 1923 (Milan), and 1967 (Gertenbach). English translation, Southwark (London), 1525.  ISTC No. ib01225000 indicates that "Several variants are known; in one the colophon reads 'M.ccc.xcvii.'
