Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Quantitative assay of immunoglobulin G.Immunochemistry, 8, 871-874, 1971.Perlmann (principal investigator) and Engvall conceptualized and developed the very commonly used enzyme-lined immunosorbent assay (ELISA) that uses antibodies to detect proteins and other different immunogens. The assay uses a solid-phase enzyme immunoassay (EIA) to detect the presence of a ligand (commonly a protein) in a liquid sample using antibodies directed against the protein to be measured.
